If you try to translate a project for languages with variants, the translations are not highlighted in any way for the non-default one. Translations are loaded and displayed correctly for both - default and non default. But are not highlighted in the non-default.

I've tested it with Dutch formal and German formal.

If you try to select the non-default variant, it jumps back to the default label. The translations for the non-default one are loaded.

@timse201 where do you see this issue? It would be great if you could share some steps to recreate it or ideally a Playground URL that would enable us to debug it.

I tested German formal on the Playground website and both the Playground manager and WP general options, so I'm probably missing something.

Here's the Playground URL I used for testing https://playground.wordpress.net/?language=de_DE_formal&url=%2Fwp-admin%2Foptions-general.php

@amieiro could this issue be related to Translate.WordPress.org? Where can I find the code for Translate Live?
