Who am I?
Hi, I'm Phillip Cloud ππ» !
I'm a software engineer working on the future of analytics @voltrondata. I lead our user-facing API team, which includes working on all sorts of fun stuff like Apache Arrow, Substrait, and Ibis.
What am I working on?
I work on a variety of open source tools. There are generally two categories of projects I work on:
Projects that solve a problem I'm currently facing.
Software should be useful, and there are often aspects of it that aren't. I enjoy working on projects that provide high utility. protoletariat
is a good example of this kind of project.
Projects that are useful for teaching myself things.
I'm a self-taught software engineer, and I really enjoy writing code to teach myself how various aspects of computers work. stupidb
(pronounced Stupid DB) is a good example of this kind of project.
Where the funds will go
The funds will help ensure that I continue to have time to work on open source projects unrelated to my day job. I don't need the funds to help pay the bills, but having that extra bit to keep on developing useful projects outside of work is a strong motivator!
